The Colorado gold rush and the developments of railroad
tracks brought life to Broomfield. As Arvada, Colorado was running out of
space, the expansion began westward and many families settled in what is
now Broomfield to start their own community. By 1908, big cars were
serving Broomfield on a daily basis. The growth in traveling activities
through the city called for the need of building a new dep ot,
filling station, and garages. A lumber yard and a barber shop were added
in 1920 as Broomfield continue to grow. By 1961, the population has grown
to 6,000 and Broomfield was incorporated. Steady growth continued as
Broomfield was annexed into Jefferson County in 1969. Broomfield is now
38,000 strong and still growing. As of 2001, Broomfield became its own
county.
